Château Sentout

The beautiful Château Sentout, situated on a hill overlooking the Garonne Valley, is on nearly forty acres of parkland and is a warm and welcoming venue for weddings, family gatherings and seminars.  It has been part of the Monument Historique area of the 12th century Château Lacaussade since 1989.  Château Sentout is perfectly suited to welcome up to 100 people, and calm and tranquility are assured.   Dating back to 1650 and named for its first owner, Jean de Sentout, the château has known some prominent proprietors. In 1740, the then owner Baron de Gasq, Minister of Parliament for Bordeaux, sold the château to Monsieur Jean Letellier, ship chandler to the navy.  With the addition of Château de Sentout, M. Letellier's property covered over 300 acres of woodland, fields and vineyards.  In the nineteenth century it came under the ownership of Eugène Fichot, a naval engineer and member of the French Academy of Sciences.  The production of white wine here declined after World War II, and the château ended its wine business in 1972.   Monsieur Fichot's heirs sold the property.  Monsieur and Madame Peltier bought the estate in 1980 and carefully restored the château  while maintaining the estate's historic character and charm.

Several varied yet compatible architectural elements make the château very interesting ~ from the Tuscan columns and a Spanish-style courtyard, to the Moorish windows from the main house to the bishop's bedroom.   The storehouse is typical of Bordeaux's 18th century architectural style with sloping roofs on four sides.  A statue of the Virgin Mary rests on a rock sheltered by an arbor said to have been designed by La Notre ~  the renowned designer of Jardins à la Française or "Gardens in the French Manner".

Château Sentout is a cultural microcosm in an historic area ~ a romantic place for intimate weddings, gatherings of friends and family, or birthday celebrations.   It is a fully self-catering accommodation, and your hosts
will provide contact information for local caterers for those special meals or wedding suppers during your stay.    For a wedding, your hosts can arrange for a photographer, florist, clergy and other vendors requested.  There is a consecrated chapel seating 50 with a sound system and a selection of classical music.   Accommodation for up to 50 guests is possible in the twenty-four en suite bedrooms distributed among six charming guest houses surrounding the courtyard, each with its own kitchen and three suites that are part of the main building.  The Bishop's bedroom in the large square tower is ideal for honeymooners.

Places for relaxation are everywhere, from intimate sitting rooms to terraces surrounded by roses and the lily pond that is home to carp and goldfish.  There is a heated covered swimming pool, with table tennis, badminton, boules and more just a few steps away.  Relax under the pergola in the exotic garden or gather with friends in the main courtyard for conversation or wine tastings.  You will certainly enjoy spending time in the orchard to pick fruit, watch the spectacular sunsets or gaze over the valley below toward the Landes forest.

Away from the château on a lazy day, guests can enjoy the undulating countryside with pleasant walks through vineyards, meadows and peaceful country lanes. The River Garonne is not far away where locals fish and barges ply slowly along, perhaps on their way to Toulouse and the Airbus assembly plant.
Of course, being so close to Bordeaux and the many  well-known vineyards is an advantage. Dine at fine restaurants within a few kilometers from the château. Day trips and wine tastings on the Médoc peninsula or at the many appellations on the right bank of the Gironde Estuary and even more along both the Garonne and Dordogne rivers are very enjoyable..  Tennis is a few kilometers from the château as is a private lake for water-skiing lessons.

Make your plans and reservations to stay at Château Sentout soon.  It is the perfect group getaway or wedding venue, and testimonials from past guests are available.
