Special Edition
September 2001
Welcome to the château of "Puss in Boots" Deep in the heart of the Saintonge in the Poitou-Charentes region of western France, and only 280 miles southwest of Paris, there is a castle registered as an Historic Monument of France - it is Château de Crazannes. We are most happy to introduce this newest member of au Château to you. This Special Edition of au Château News presents several photos you will not find on our web site -- providing a little more information and a larger view of this wonderful property. Unique among our member properties, Château de Crazannes can provide a cozy room or suite with breakfast -- or guests can rent the Keep, the Cottage, the Château or the entire property! (The photos are large files
and may take a little time to open - we ask your patience.)
Appealing to visitors for its beauty and long, interesting history, Château de Crazannes is conveniently located near the Atlantic cities of La Rochelle and Royan, the vineyards of Cognac and Bordeaux, and twelve kilometers away from the 2000 year-old city of Saintes with its Roman amphitheatre and other notable architectural gems. If golf or horseback riding are your favorite pastimes, either is easily attainable when you are a guest at Crazannes. And, there is a heated swimming pool! Inspired centuries ago by the château's Marquis de Carabas, it was here that author Charles Perrault created the Count for his children's story, "Puss in Boots". Historically significant, the site held a fortress, chapel, keep and moat in the 11th century. The Chapel and Keep alongside the moat stand today -- a thousand years of history for visitors to experience.
