The
Cathar's Tower
of Chateau d'Agel represents a time in its history when its dominant
position
over the Cesse Valley was of strategic importance. Its
imposing
size and strength enabled the village of Agel to resist the Albigensian
Crusade of the 13th century ~ a 20-year campaign by the Catholic church
to eliminate the Cathar heresy.

The Orangerie
is a lovely
part of the château. Leaded glass windows look out onto the
lush gardens. It is a grand space for large events such as
weddings,
family celebration dinners, and receptions. The owners of Chateau
d'Agel have great expertise in arranging special events and weddings,
and
they welcome inquiries. |

You can
almost feel
the texture of the dovecote's beautiful ancient stones - one of many
fascinating
structures that are part of this fortress castle in the historic
Languedoc.
There is the main building, the dovecote, and there are four towers and
extensive terraced gardens in a parkland of five acres.

Chateau d'Agel
is
not simply a lovely place to spend your holiday; it is
surrounded
by vineyards once owned by the family but now managed by others.
You can enjoy tastings of fine Minervois wines from grapes grown at the
foot of Black Mountain in the limestone causse of Saint
Jean
de Minervois. Guests can enjoy tastings in the castle cellar. |
