Le Pavillon de Galon

Your first glance at Le Pavillon de Galon is enough to make you want to stay!  This absolutely delightful country home in Provence is a luxurious bed and breakfast year 'round, but can be rented during the summertime as a self-catering property.  Originally a hunting pavillon in the 18th century, the house has been carefully and tastefully restored.  With the Luberon mountains as a backdrop and its south-facing aspect,  Le Pavillon de Galon sits on eleven lovely acres and offers privacy, seclusion and the chance to truly experience Provençal life.  Yet, it is well located for the many activities offered in the region.

The house itself has thick stone walls and shuttered windows creating natural air conditioning on warmer days.  Its terraces capture the warmth of the sun and provide the perfect place to relax with an apéritif while listening to the sound of water from a mountain spring running into the ancient Roman pools.  The largest of four spring-fed pools is 30 meters long and invites guests to refresh themselves with a swim.  The water is naturally clean requiring no chemicals, and the temperature is very comfortable in season.  The gardens are beyond description as you can see in the photos, and the orchards have 48 different varieties of fruit trees!  There is a French garden ~ which includes pergolas, terraces with box hedges, roses and wisterias to provide delightful fragrances as you meander along ~ a vegetable garden, and green oak trees for truffles!.

And, the proprietors are now producing their own wines as well as olive oil.  The groves and vineyards, in addition to the spectacular gardens, add so much to your stay at Le Pavillon de Galon.

The interior is no less enchanting.  Each room is beautifully appointed in rich, soothing colors, and the endless sunlight of Provençal days bathes every one of them.   There are two spacious guest rooms with en suite shower rooms on the first floor of the main house with a private entrance and offering a view of the gardens to the south.  Guests have the option of king or twin beds in their rooms, which also have televisions and a collection of films.  The owner's beautiful kitchen is the site of cooking classes for those who schedule them in advance.  Lessons are organized several times per season and take advantage of local produce exploring classic Provençal cuisine heritage.  In fact, much of the products are from Le Pavillon's own organic kitchen garden.   Artists and aspiring artists will enjoy landscape painting lessons offered occasionally at Le Pavillon de Galon.  A living room for guests' to enjoy has a library, large comfortable arm chairs, a sofa and all that is needed to prepare tea or a drink.

Location is everything, and the village of Cucuron offers all one could need for a comfortable stay at Le Pavillon de Galon.  But, for those who will travel farther afield, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, the hill villages of the Luberon, antiques markets at lsle sur la Sorgue, and the wonderful cities of Marseille and Arles are easily accessible.  For nature lovers, there is mountain biking, rock climbing and horseback riding in the countryside, and for sports enthusiasts golf and tennis are nearby.  And, we mustn't forget oenophiles, as many wine tastings can be arranged at the finest domaines in the region.  Le Pavillon de Galon offers something for everyone ~ but most of all, it provides an incredibly lovely retreat amid the flora and fauna of Provence's Vaucluse département and certainly a unique opportunity to explore and enjoy the real  Provence!
