Century-old
trees adorn the two and a half hectare landscaped park surrounding
Castell
Rose, a château constructed in 1947 with respect for and
adherence
to old traditions. Built from granite and pink marble, the
château
has three different aspects: the principal wing with a square
tower,
a Romance gallery on the north side, and a pink marble terrace facing
south.
The owners, Evelyne, a former flight attendant, and Alex, once a hôtelier, purchased this fine building and completely renovated it in 2004 to create a sophisticated and inviting chambres d'hôtes. They have succeeded admirably. Castell Rose offers five distinctive en suite guest rooms, one suitable for a family. The guest rooms are spacious, light and airy and tastefully and thoughtfully furnished. Some offer balconies, fireplaces or king size beds, and all bathrooms are equipped with all the modern conveniences. The polished oak or marble floors, pleasant color schemes, fine linens, and long windows overlooking the lush grounds make each room special. The salon is at the disposal of guests and includes a bar, a television, a dining area for enjoying breakfast and dinner, and a large fireplace surrounded by comfortable arm chairs for relaxation. Four beautiful self-catering accommodations are offered at Castell Rose. The lovely Villa les Palmiers is available for those who would like to rent a two-bedroom, gîte by the week. With one bedroom offering a king size bed and the other a double bed, the Villa is perfectly suited to four people. There is a laundry, a bathroom with shower, a fully-equipped kitchen, a salon, a private garden with a terrace and barbecue, and it is air conditioned for the ultimate in comfort during the hotter days of summer. Three newly completed apartments are Picasso, a studio with private terrace; Gaudi, an apartment for four with two bedrooms each with an en suite bathroom; and Dali, two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, also for up to four people. All are air-conditioned and offer privacy and countryside views. Guests will find a generous array of things to do at Castell Rose including boules on the south side of the château, a shaded first-class tennis court, a giant trampoline, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, a solarium, and a 50-foot by 21-foot swimming pool complete with safety fencing available from May 20th to September 15th. There is, of course, private parking on the grounds for guests. The location of Castell Rose (a five-minute walk from the town of Prades) makes it the perfect destination for exploration of the Pyrénées. With 300 days of sunshine a year and a wonderfully mild climate, visitors will find themselves truly enjoying all the outdoors offers in this region. Canigou, the sacred mountain of the Catalans, is perfect for experienced hikers; horseback riding, mountain biking, climbing and cycling along country lanes are also popular pastimes. There is an abundance of Romanesque architecture in the region for guests at the château to see including the many churches, cloisters, priories and abbeys like St Michel de Cuxa, St Martin du Canigou and the hilltop Cathar castles. Also, there are five classified Most Beautiful Villages nearby: Castelnou, Eus, Evol (a commune of Olette), Mosset and Villefranche-de-Conflent. There are also thermal spas, the popular Train Jaune, and the Grottes des Canalettes. As you can see, you will not be lacking for sights to see, things to do and places to explore. Contact the owners direct for their Themed Holidays which they will happily organize for you based upon either cultural or sporting interests. They're waiting to hear from you! |
