Château
de la Bourgonie is a lovely and tranquil property steeped in history
and well-loved by its owners. In the 13th century,
when the Knight Geraud de Commarque left for a crusade, the property
was put in the care of the Order of the Knights of Jerusalem,. It was in 1587 that the
château and its lands reverted back to the Commarque family
. Today, eight generations later, Count Hubert de Commarque owns
the estate, managing and maintaining this château and the
Château de la Poujade nearby. It was in 1972 that he
purchased the ruins of the medieval fortress
of Commarque, the historic birthplace of his family. Following
archaeological
research and extensive restoration work, which continues to this day,
the
Comte opened this amazing castle to the public in 2001.
