An Elegant Château

The front entrance to Château de la Caillotière faces the pond and its verdant estate.  The ornate double stairway leads to a fine balcony  ~ the centerpiece of which is a lovely sculpture and a medallion in a niche at the top of the stairs.

The rear entrance to this pretty château begins with a grand stairway taking you to a classic double doorway.  The pink brick of the château is accented with fine architectural details in tuffeau, the white sedimentary limestone rock found in the Loire Valley.

This stone was the floor of the sea ninety million years ago and is created by the compression of sand and fossilized organisms.  Easily carved into pleasant forms, it adds so much to the beauty of this château.

Château chapel
On the third floor is a small chapel with a vaulted ceiling and trompe l'oeil wallpaper giving the impression of draped fabric.

The pond is a focal point of the thoughtfully designed landscape at the château.  In these photos we see it from the porch at the front of the château, and the second photo provides a view of  the château from the other side of the pond.   If you are interested, you can fish in the pond ~ fishing rods are provided.  There is no doubt that a stay at Château de la Caillotière, including leisurely strolls on the estate, will send you home completely relaxed and rejuvenated.
